Caring for human hair
Human hair lasts 3–5 years with proper care. It does not receive natural oils from the scalp, so it needs a little more moisture than your own hair.
Washing
- Detangle gently with a wide-tooth comb before washing, working from the ends up.
- Use lukewarm water and a sulphate-free shampoo, smoothing downwards rather than rubbing.
- Condition every wash, leaving it on for a few minutes, and rinse in cool water.
Drying and styling
- Blot with a towel; never wring or twist.
- Let it air-dry where you can, or use a low heat setting.
- Always use a heat protectant, and keep irons below about 180 °C.
Every day
- Brush with a soft-bristle or loop brush, holding the hair near the base.
- Sleep with extensions in a loose braid or ponytail, ideally on a silk or satin pillowcase.
- Keep wigs on a stand, out of direct sun.
Colouring
Human hair can be coloured darker by a professional. Lightening is not recommended, as it weakens the hair.
